Swing Gate
Width measurement for a single swing gate:
How to calculate the size of a required single swing gate?
Measure the width between the gate posts at the top and at the bottom, take the smaller value of the two measurements and this will be your available clearance width (mm).
Clearance width (mm) - 40 mm (Need to take off 20 mm for hinge clearance and another 20 mm for non-hinge side post clearance) = Final gate width (mm).
Height measurement for a single swing gate:
First of all, please consider the following points.
1. Your preferred swing gate height.
2. Your existing fence height.
3. Council regulations on front fence or front gate height or if a permit is required.
Measure the height from your driveway up to the required ideal height of a swing gate on both sides. Take the smaller value of the two measurements (mm) - 50 mm ( Take off 50 mm as the minimum ground clearance) = Final gate height (mm).
Please note the following about the ground clearance:
1. If the driveway has a slope then please ensure that the 50 mm of ground clearance is enough so that gate won't hit the ground while swinging.
2. If the driveway is not finished yet and waiting for the concrete to be done then take off at least 150 mm (100 mm for concrete + 50 mm for ground clearance).
Width measurement for a double swing gate:
How to calculate the size of a required dual swing gate?
Measure the width between the gate posts at the top and at the bottom, take the smaller value of the two measurements and this will be your available clearance width (mm).
Clearance width (mm) - 60 mm (Need to take off 40 mm for hinge clearance {20 mm for each side of hinge} and another 20 mm for the gap between the two gates when they are shut) = Final gate width (mm).
Height measurement for a double swing gate:
First of all, please consider the following points.

2. Your existing fence height.
3. Council regulations on front fence or front gate height or if a permit is required.
